My Story

I was born, raised and educated in Dagenham Essex and lived there until the summer of 2002 when family circumstances lead me to move to Halstead, Essex. Looking back - 2002 was a momentous year of change not only had I moved to Halstead but in December of that year I took my very first photograph.  My friends and I had booked flights to go to New York for a weekend and in celebration I decided to buy my first digital camera, a £30 bargain from Argos.  I came back from NYC with 645 images and the rest they say is history.

It felt so natural taking photographs and from that moment on I was hooked, I photographed everything that inspired me, I started to understand light, learnt different camera techniques and took the first steps in mastering my post processing skills.  Within a year I had invested heavily in the Nikon D70 DSLR (I loved that camera) this camera helped to evolve my love of photography into an obsession with photography and for the first time in my life I knew I’d found the career I wanted for the rest of my life.

Luckily for me my obsession was fuelled by working as a full time photographer for the British Government from 2003 until early 2013, I was absolutely blessed with amazing assignments that took me all over the world working with many different cultures.  As my photography career was taking off I was really focussed on my education, I found a photography mentor and invested heavily into workshops in England, Italy and Japan developing my style and growing not only as a photographer but as a person too.

My photography journey has given me some amazing friendships not only with fellow photographers but with my clients too and to think this all started with that £30 purchase from Argos is crazy.  My advice to you is to always follow your dreams and never give up in the pursuit of happiness, there will always be challenges and worries along the way but we mustn't give up on our dreams.  We only get one chance at life so we've got to make the most of it and I for one feel very fortunate to have found photography.

life is sometimes about taking risks to achieve your own greatness....

In April 2013 I finally plucked up the courage to take the giant "leap of faith" I gave up security of my day job to take my photography business full time.

Fast forward to 2024 and as I’m sitting here writing this I look back on where photography has taken me and I feel so blessed, so far I’ve photographed assignments in approx 25 Countries around the World. I’ve never left my photography roots so as well as photographing weddings and portraits i still specialise in corporate photography, event photography and commercial work, and back in 2019 I set up Model Photography Holidays with my now girlfriend Michelle. We so far have ran 4 highly successful fashion to art nude workshops in Portugal and are looking to grow our European and UK based workshops further.

This journal will now contain stories and updates from all of my photography work (both professionally and private) and Model Photography Holidays, I want this journal to act as the website that ties everything together.

Feel free to connect with me all over social media, and if you or someone you know ever needs a photographer then please give me a shout!

All the best,

Gavin
